Choosing A Motel: The Ultimate Guide For Travellers

Blog

Motels are a preferred accommodation choice for people who require short-term accommodation as they travel. As a traveller, you will want a motel that offers quality services at a reasonable price. Below is a quick guide to help you choose an appropriate motel.

Location! Location! Location

Location is probably the most vital consideration when choosing a motel. As a traveller, you may not know much about the town you intend to spend the night. Therefore, your motel must be conveniently located. Preferably, it should be close to a major highway to ensure you have an easy time identifying it. Conduct a quick Google search to check the traffic conditions in the area. If you have a tight schedule, you could consider motels located in the town suburbs away from the traffic jams.

Parking Space And Security

Check the motel's website and Google My Business listing to ensure that they have adequate parking space. It is especially so if you will arrive late at night when the motel has many residents. The motel should invest in security. For example, the premises should have CCTV systems and armed guards to deter thieves.

Revellers

Assuming you want to spend some time at the motel's bar or restaurant, it would be nice to research who frequents the motel. For example, truck drivers are an entertaining lot since they will tell you about their escapades on the road. Additionally, they will inform you about changing road conditions and what you should expect on the road ahead. If the motel is frequented by tourists, you will enjoy making friends with people from different cultures and countries.

Room Considerations

Consider the following when examining a motel room:

  • The room should be spacious and well aerated.
  • Check the room amenities. For instance, some motels will offer a working desk for business travellers. Look out for free Wi-Fi, cable TV, AC, and a refrigerator.
  • If you have valuables, consider motel rooms that have safes.
  • Inquire if the motel room has soundproofing. If not, go for the room that is furthest from noisy places, such as the bar.
  • Check the orientation of the room. It is especially so if you enjoy the sunrise or physical features such as the sea or landscapes.

Your preferred motel should have a simple and straightforward booking process. For instance, they should have a booking portal on their website. Some motels may offer discounts to their customers.

When choosing a motel, assess its location, security, parking, revellers and the room features.

Planning a weekend away

My wife had been having a rocky time of it since our second child was born. She really needed a break from the kids so I organised a luxury weekend away in a hotel while the kids stayed with our parents. That way she was be able to catch up on sleep, having uninterrupted showers and toilet breaks. She also really looked forward to not having to clean up after the kids for a while! Luckily, she enjoyed this weekend so much that we decided to do it more regularly. This blog is all about organising a luxury weekend away in a hotel for your spouse.
